Assistant

Free and open source. Simpler with Assistant.

Nixorium runs your lab for free, from its guided menu. Assistant is an optional AI agent for any change the menu does not offer: describe what you need, then review its proposal.

Beyond the menu

Everything a lab needs day to day is in the free menu. Assistant is for any change the menu does not offer; three examples follow. It reads your lab’s configuration and state, and you review everything before it is saved or applied.

  • A program from a download

“Put the AppImage at this address on every student PC.”

Downloads the file once on the controller, pins its hash and writes the package. The PCs receive it at the next update, without Internet.

  • An update that did not reach pc03

“pc03 still runs the old version after the update. What do the observations show, and what should I check next?”

Reads update and boot evidence, separates what is known from what is uncertain, and suggests the next check.

  • An offline notebook lesson

“Prepare Jupyter with pandas for offline use, and give every student the starter notebooks at every boot.”

Writes the Python environment and the students’ initial files; the PCs get both at the next update, and every boot starts from them.

Why Assistant

Not a generic chatbot. An expert on your lab.

  • Knows your lab

It reads how your laboratory is configured and which Nixorium version it runs, so proposals fit what you already have instead of working around it.

  • Understands a technician’s requests

Requests need little explaining. Assistant is tuned on what administrators ask for a lab: programs, Internet rules, printers, desktops, students’ initial files and “why doesn’t this PC update?”. It can also propose changes to the browser homepage, time zone, language, keyboard layout and Git identities; everything else in the settings stays in the menu.

  • Can’t break your lab alone

Your lab stays untouched until you decide. Assistant works in a private copy; nothing is saved or installed until you review it, and you can always roll back.

  • Checked before you see it

You review proposals that already hold up. Each one is evaluated and, when needed, built on the controller; errors found are fixed before the answer reaches you.

  • Sees the real state

Answers about your lab rest on facts, not guesses. It reads the lab state (which PCs are on, pending updates, last results) to diagnose problems.

  • Protects what matters

Your lab’s security and passwords stay yours. It never weakens the controller’s management channel and never asks for passwords in chat; secrets are removed before anything is sent.

Try Assistant in 3 steps

  1. Install Community Edition

Get the complete, free Nixorium system on your controller. Assistant lives in its administrator menu.

    Get started →
  2. Get your code

Register with your email and school name. We send an activation code within a minute. No payment, no card.

    Try Assistant free →
  3. Activate Assistant

Enable Assistant on the controller, open it from the menu and paste the code. You get 30 requests for 90 days.

When you subscribe, the same lab keeps working: no new code needed.

What counts as a request?

One message to Assistant, plus all the work until its answer, including checks and test builds. A request the service interrupts before an answer is not counted.

What happens when requests run out?

Assistant pauses until renewal; Nixorium keeps working. Need more? Write to [email protected].

Does the price depend on the number of PCs?

No. One subscription per laboratory (one controller), whatever the number of PCs.

Can I cancel?

Yes, any time before renewal, from the billing portal (/billing in Assistant). The subscription stays active until the end of the paid year.

What does Assistant send outside the school?

Only what it needs: your messages and the configuration files it reads, without passwords or keys. We keep the text of conversations 30 days to prevent abuse. Privacy →

Can Assistant break my lab?

You review the proposed files and checks before saving. Applying to the controller and updating clients each need a separate review, and you can roll back.

Invoices for public administrations?

Yes: Italian electronic invoice (SDI). Schools that cannot pay by card can order and pay by bank transfer: write to [email protected].

Do I need Assistant to use Nixorium?

No. Community Edition is the complete system, free and open source: its guided menu covers everything a lab needs, from installation to software, updates and backups. Assistant adds the custom changes the menu does not offer, whenever you want them.

Which AI does it use?

A language model (today OpenAI GPT-6.1 Sol) through OpenRouter. The provider doesn’t train on your data and deletes it after at most 30 days.

In which languages does it answer?

In the language you write in. The interface is in English; answers and proposals follow your language.

I already use Claude Code or Codex. Do I need Assistant?

Not necessarily. The free Agent Skill guides your own agent to inspect the lab and prepare proposals for programs and the students’ workspace; it never writes modules or saves anything, and you install and pay for the agent and its keys. Assistant lives in the Nixorium menu, nothing to install and no key: it writes the whole change (modules, programs, students’ initial files, common settings), builds it on your controller and fixes its own errors before answering, and reads each PC’s diagnostics to explain problems. You review the files and the affected PCs, save with a backup and apply as usual, at a fixed yearly price per lab with electronic invoice. Read the Agent Skill ↗

I manage several laboratories. Can I try Assistant in each?

Yes. Register each laboratory under its own name: one free trial per laboratory, even with the same email address.

What stays in the menu?

The network and its addresses, the number of computers, account names and passwords, and the classroom view switch: Assistant does not change them. It never patches Nixorium itself and installs nothing: saving records a commit and a backup, then applying and updating are the usual reviews.

Do the student PCs need Internet for this?

No. Only the controller talks to the Assistant service and, for a program from a download, fetches the file once. The PCs receive the built program from the controller at the next update, as with any other change.
